Published in 1998, this book is an articulate and densely
documented account of political, cultural and historical forces and
tensions involved in contemporary European integration; most
especially concerning Germany. In doing so it provides an effective
fusion of a vast array of material from what are normally separate
disciplines. The book investigates contemporary resonances of
identifications and conceptions of political boundaries that
appeared in Europe in the late eighteenth and nineteenth century.
It argues that within a 'supranationalising' Europe, national
identity and nationalism have not disappeared as cultural and
political phenomena. Rather they persist and manifest themselves in
variable forms at popular and elite levels. This is the basis for
Europe's condition of far from completed unity, at the centre of
which is now a reunited Germany, more sure of itself but less sure
of the world around it.

This book reflects the enormous interest in work-life balance and
current pressing concerns about the impacts of austerity more
broadly. It draws on contemporary research and practitioner
experiences to explore how work-life balance and related workplace
and social policy fare in turbulent economic times and the
implications for employees, employers and wider societies. Authors
consider workplace trends, practices and employment relations and
the impacts on work, care and well-being of diverse workers. A
guiding theme throughout the book is a triple agenda of supporting
employee work-life balance, workplace effectiveness and social
justice. The final chapters present case studies of innovative
processes and organizational practices for addressing the triple
agenda, note the important role of social policy context and
discuss the challenge of extending debates on work-life balance to
include a social justice dimension. This book will be of interest
to academics and postgraduate students of organisational
psychology, sociology, human resource management, management and
business studies, law and social policy, as well as employers,
managers, HR managers, trade unions, and policy makers.

Running a business is immensely difficult. There are so many
factors that drive whether you are successful or not. "Tell Us
Where It Hurts" looks at a wide range of factors which we as
business consultants have seen in our clients' businesses. We look
at 52 manufacturing and service companies which came to us for
help. They had sales ranging from nothing as pre-start-ups, through
to sales of tens of millions and on up to $200m. The book brings
together the three common challenge areas of business Strategy -
Marketing - Performance and blends them with the seven Growth
Capability Elements. The findings show the types of problems that
companies struggle with and investigates whether there are any
common themes which our clients struggle with. The answer is yes...
but it varies... a lot. "Tell Us Where It Hurts" is a useful read
for those in business who would like to learn whether their "tricky
situation is normal" and provides some thoughts as to what the
business leader can do about it.

When the Plague swept around the world, leaving the vast majority
of the human population as undead flesh-crazed maniacs, Police
Detective Scott Williams and his wife fled their home for the
mountains of northwestern Arkansas, intending to hide and survive.
They found that the living were as much a threat to their survival
as the undead. Now, five years after the Event, Scott is the leader
of a group of survivors constantly besieged by the ever-present
undead, and stalked at every turn by the well-armed Road Gangs.
Facing starvation as the ability to scavenge food dwindles, and
enduring the endless struggle with his two life-threatening
enemies, Scott questions, "Is simply surviving worth it?" That is,
until he finds the Dell. Dell, Tennessee, a picturesque little
village nestled in the hills bordering the Cumberland River Valley,
offers the exhausted band of refugees a chance at something that
was lost five years ago: hope. The ability to live life free of the
constant fear of the undead, and to escape the Road Gangs and
starvation. Their continued survival is tied to the Dell, and Scott
is determined not to fail. Only then will he find out if they can
go on.
